OpenEmu: Ultimate Retro Gaming Experience

OpenEmu: No Power Glove required!

Finally, I can talk about OpenEmu! A long time ago, it wasn’t easy to find a way to play retro games (Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis) on Mac computers. It was always possible using Windows, but the software was ugly and not smooth to use. For Mac gamers, everything has changed since the release of a retro game emulator called “OpenEmu“, exclusively for the Mac.

The developers adopted the philosophy of “it just works” along with a design that is similar to iTunes.

Emulators on Windows

With other emulators, you had to open the program, go through the complicated preferences, configure the controller, then navigate the file menu to load the game. This involved clicking through the many folders where you stored your games. Yeah you could do it, but the process wasn’t elegant or smooth.

OpenEmu for Mac: Play classic game roms!

OpenEmu and Retro Gaming

OpenEmu has taken the cores of different emulators for systems and housed them in a very well-designed app. To add games (roms), just drag the game into OpenEmu and it will be copied to the game library.

This is a great idea because all your games are in the same place (game library), so you NEVER have to go hunting for game files in some abandoned subfolder you forgot about.

Game system support includes over more than 10 different systems. This includes the classics: Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, Gameboy, and more.

Play Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, and more!

A really nice touch to an already nice app is OpenEmu automatically searches internet databases for the information AND cover art of each game you import into the library. This gives you a sense of having a classic shelf of games, just like in the 80s and 90s.

A controller is a must for anyone wanting to enjoy playing retro games. OpenEmu has you covered here because it comes with support for various controllers you may already have (Wii, PS3, etc)

buffaloI actually prefer playing with a USB classic controller from Buffalo.  I bought 2 of them and they feel great to hold and function great together when playing a multiplayer game.

So there you have it, gaming just got a whole lot better for Mac users!

  1. Hi, I am Japanese who had been playing the games, such as
Nintendo…(called “Family computer”in Japan) from that launch.

Your post reminds me that my Dad suddenly bought Nintendo
and buying also Mario brothers and 麻雀.

And He still loves playing 麻雀 now.
But for him, Playing real situation is better than the game’s!
On the other hand, I love playing games which is about fiction,
Sci-fi, and violence, and so on.

That’s why I can do anything only in game situation.

That’s what I’m talking about, the important thing is…Virtual reality♪

I’m looking forward to coming next your upload!!

    Good works!
